Why the First 30 Days Matter
Moving into a new home is only the beginning. Without structure and support in the critical first month, placements fail — and people end up back where they started. The Root & Rise OC 30-Day Foundation Program exists to prevent that.
Every resident who enters the program completes a structured onboarding sequence designed to establish identity, benefits, employment, and community connection before the 30-day mark. Homeowners are kept informed throughout. County partners receive accountability check-ins at every milestone.
What the Program Accomplishes
Five core goals — every resident, every placement.
ID & Documentation
Every resident works with our case team to obtain or restore valid government-issued ID, Social Security documentation, and any other records needed to access services, employment, and housing in the future.
Benefits Enrollment
We connect residents with every benefit they qualify for — CalFresh, Medi-Cal, General Relief, and other county and state programs — so they have a financial floor from day one.
Employment & School Placement
Residents are connected with job placement resources, vocational training, or school enrollment based on their goals and circumstances. Stable income is the bridge from temporary housing to permanent independence.
Thrift Store Volunteering
All residents participate in structured volunteer shifts at our ALessMess Thrift Store. This builds routine, work history, community connection, and a sense of contribution — all critical to long-term stability.
Court & Legal Support
For residents with outstanding legal matters — warrants, fines, court dates, or record issues — we connect them with legal aid resources and help them navigate the process so past issues don't block their future.
